Wheelchair Basketball

Classification ensures fair competition and integrity in Para-Sport. To participate in certain State & National High Performance Pathways and to represent Australia in International Competition, athletes must be assessed by Basketball Australia’s classifiers, and deemed eligible. 

Wheelchair basketball uses a classification system ranging from 1.0 to 4.5, with lower numbers indicating most impairment. Athletes without an eligible impairment or who don’t meet the minimum criteria are classified as Not Eligible (NE). It is important to note that NE (Not Eligible) athletes and AB (Able Body) athletes are welcome and encouraged to play in most local, state and national competitions all over Australia.

HOST A CLASSIFICATION EVENT

Are you hosting a wheelchair basketball event/competition? Would you like to include classification opportunities at your event?

If you have answered YES to both questions above, please get in touch with us via email, and send us all your event details. A minimum 4-month notice is required to host a classification event, and there may be costs associated with hosting an event.
