Mapp & Anticevic to join the Centre of Excellence
Two athletes will join the CoE in Canberra as part of a mid-year intake.
Kane Downie, from Mount Gambier, began his wheelchair basketball journey after being introduced to the sport during rehabilitation. He quickly fell in love with the game and began participating in social competitions. With strong support from his family, who drove him to training sessions, and friends who were always cheering him on, Kane’s passion for the sport grew.
His role model, Mark Sicolo, was a major influence in his early career, encouraging him to attend his first KCC after only three months of playing, and to commit to every training session in Adelaide.
Kane's accomplishments include competing in Slam last year, participating in Under 23 Nationals, and winning two social competitions in his home state of South Australia.
Playing Style:
Kane describes himself as a vocal player who tries to connect everyone on the court. He sometimes plays as a big (inside player) but is also comfortable sitting out for an outside shot.
Did you know?
Outside of basketball, Kane has some impressive personal achievements and interests:
In the spirit of reconciliation Basketball Australia acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We pay our respect to their Elders past and present and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
