The Rollers' historic World Championship triumph was accompanied by individual recognition for two key members of the squad, with Jaylen Brown named the 2026 IWBF Wheelchair Basketball World Championship MVP, while Frank Pinder was honoured with selection to the tournament's All-Star Five.
JAYLEN BROWN: A TOURNAMENT FOR THE AGES
Brown's MVP honour comes as little surprise following one of the most dominant individual campaigns in recent memory. The 21-year-old was a constant offensive force across all seven games, headlined by a stunning 41-point outing in the Quarter-Final win over Spain and a 37-point, 8-assist performance in the overtime Semi-Final thriller against Germany.
Brown closed out the tournament in style, scoring 28 points in the Gold Medal game against Italy, capping a campaign in which he reached at least 20 points in every match, including a 34-point, 6-assist showing in the tournament opener against Argentina. Across the seven games, Brown consistently combined elite scoring with meaningful contributions across the rest of the stat sheet, rebounding, playmaking and defending at a high level throughout Australia's unbeaten run.
FRANK PINDER: THE UNSUNG HERO
Pinder's selection to the All-Star Five reflects the value of a player whose impact often went beyond the scoreline. While his scoring numbers remained modest across the tournament, Pinder was a model of consistency and reliability, regularly logging significant minutes, including over 37 minutes in the win over Great Britain and 33 minutes in the Semi-Final against Germany, while committing just one turnover across the entire tournament.
His steady, low-error game and defensive discipline made him a trusted presence on court throughout Australia's campaign, the kind of selfless, team-first contribution that underpinned the Rollers' success and was clearly recognised by tournament selectors.
A CAMPAIGN BUILT ON TRUST AND TRANSFORMATION
Reflecting on the tournament win, the Rollers' Head Coach Brad Ness credited the culmination of a multi-year process behind the team's success.
"It's just incredible, the guys were so good. We asked them three years ago to buy into a whole new system, what we've been doing hadn't been working so we had to change, and at the start it was a few tears and hard words from everyone, but we've come together and over the last six months it just clicked."
A FITTING TRIBUTE TO A HISTORIC CAMPAIGN
The individual honours for Brown and Pinder serve as a fitting reflection of the two sides of Australia's championship-winning formula, explosive individual brilliance at one end, paired with quiet consistency and selflessness at the other. Together with the rest of the squad, the pair helped deliver the Rollers' first IWBF World Championship title since 2014, and a third overall in program history.
