The Australian Boomers begin their second-round qualification in their quest to make it to the 2027 FIBA World Cup.
State of Play:
All points acquired from Australia’s six games during the first stage of qualifying carry over. This means the Boomers lead by a slim margin in Group E. Australia sits on 12 points ahead of Iran and Jordan, who are on 11.
This window will be critical to determine if Australia finish inside the all-important top three which will earn them a place at the 2027 FIBA World Cup.
Fixture:
The Boomers are set to play two games the first will be against Syria on August 28th at 7:00 PM AEST. Their second game against third-place Jordan will take place on August 30th at 7:00 PM AEST at the Mall of Asia Arena in the Philippines.
The Squad:
Two debutants have been added to their first Boomers squads. Anthony Dell’Orso who has recently signed with the Perth Wildcats after a strong college career with Arizona in America will get his opportunity to shine.
Meanwhile, 22-year-old Max Mackinnon who has joined the Brisbane Bullets after finishing his college career at LSU will also suit up for the Boomers.
Familiar faces such as Dash Daniels, Sam Froling, Nichloas Kay and Luke Travers add to a mix of experienced stars and fresh faced during the FIBA window.
What they’re playing for:
This is the fourth of six FIBA qualifying windows with final qualification not decided until March 2027. The top three teams in Group E will be granted a place at the 2027 FIBA World Cup.
The 2027 FIBA World Cup will take place from the 27th of August to the 12th of September 2027 in Qatar.

The Boomers’ World Cup qualifiers will be available to watch on ESPN and affiliated streaming platforms at 7:00 PM on the 28th and 30th of August.
