Emus make light work of Thailand to begin U18 Asia Cup campaign

Australia’s opening clash against Thailand at the FIBA U18 Asia Cup was a dominant display from the opening tip, with the Australian side asserting their presence from start to finish.

The Emus came out firing in the opening quarter, controlling the game at both ends of the floor. Australia’s strength on the boards was a major factor early, creating second chance points to extend their lead 46 - 19 at the half.

The Emus continued to excel through the second half as Jai Fa’ale took charge offensively and put the game beyond doubt to win 102 - 32.

There were numerous contributors for the Emus, with five players crossing into double digits.

The win sets Australia up with an early statement, with Head Coach Luke Brennan pleased with the opening performance.

“Great start for us. Good to work some of the cobwebs out.”

Fa’ale led the scorers with 22 points, whilst Basaran dominated the glass, ending the game with a 10 point, 14 rebound double-double to cap off numerous Emus that contributed on both ends of the floor.

“Everyone contributed, everyone had their moments and I’m happy with where we are at,” says Brennan.

The Emus will turn their attention to Saturday, facing a familiar foe in the Philippines.
