More than 110 girls took to the court at the State Basketball Centre in Adelaide for a day of basketball, connection and inspiration as She Hoops delivered two clinics designed to build confidence, develop skills and showcase the many opportunities basketball can provide.
Supported by Jayco and Tissot, and co-funded by Basketball SA through its Female Participation Strategy Fund, the clinics were delivered in collaboration with the Adelaide Lightning, with players Zitina Aokuso and Gemma Potter joining Australian Opal Courtney Woods to coach participants, share their experiences and connect with the next generation.
Across both sessions, girls aged 8–17 challenged themselves on court while learning in a supportive, girls-only environment. Beyond developing basketball skills, the clinics gave participants the opportunity to interact with elite female athletes, ask questions and see first-hand the different pathways available within the game.
A new addition to the She Hoops clinic experience was the Careers in Basketball Workshop, developed to help girls explore opportunities beyond playing.
Moderated by Courtney Woods, the panel featured Jacqui Dover (FIBA Referee), Zitina Aokuso, Gemma Potter and Mel MacGillivray, CEO of the Adelaide Lightning, who shared their career journeys and encouraged participants to think about where basketball could take them. From officiating and administration to leadership and professional playing, the session highlighted the many ways women can build a career in the sport.
The Adelaide clinic reflects the She Hoops commitment to creating experiences that inspire girls to stay involved in basketball, while building confidence, connection and a sense of belonging through positive female role models.
