Sapphires book their ticket to the quarter finals, crushing Germany

A fast start and complete team performance sends Australia through to the final eight.

AUS 71 - 45 GER

The Sapphires have secured their place in the quarter finals of the FIBA U17 Women's World Cup, with a commanding 71-45 victory over Germany in the Round of 16.

Australia came out hunting from the opening tip, attacking the rim with confidence and racing to an early lead. Madison Ryan and Olivia Olechnowicz helped set the tone, combining on repeated offensive plays as the team applied relentless pressure to build a 27-3 lead at the first break.

Germany attempted to disrupt Australia’s rhythm in the second quarter, applying full-court pressure to force turnovers. Despite the increased pressure, the Sapphires remained composed, with Isabel Smith stepping up her offensive output to help maintain control.

A quieter second term saw Australia head into halftime with a comfortable 41-14 advantage.

The Sapphires continued to showcase their team first basketball after the main break, making excellent reads and moving the ball consistently to find open looks.

Their unselfish play style allowed the Sapphires to control the contest from start to finish and secure a 71-45 win, booking their ticket to the quarter finals.

Madison Ryan was unstoppable throughout, leading the way with 16 points, while Isabel Smith added 15 points in a clinical Sapphires performance.
