Building on the success of last week's two-game Opals series against China in Melbourne, Basketball Australia and the Chinese Basketball Association have formalised a new Memorandum of Understanding that will strengthen basketball ties between the two nations over the next four years.
The agreement establishes a framework for regular men's and women's high-performance exchanges, creating new opportunities for players, coaches, referees and performance staff to share knowledge, experience and best practice.
Basketball Australia CEO Matt Scriven said the agreement represented an important step in building deeper connections with one of the world's leading basketball nations.
"This is a significant partnership for Australian basketball and the first of its kind between Basketball Australia and the Chinese Basketball Association," Scriven said.
"It creates a clear pathway for regular high-performance exchanges across our men's and women's programs, while also opening up meaningful opportunities for player development, coaching, officiating and junior national teams.
"China is an important and successful basketball nation and this agreement gives both countries the opportunity to share expertise, build stronger relationships and create new experiences for athletes and staff at every level of the game."
Beyond the on-court opportunities, the MOU also provides a platform for broader collaboration across commercial partnerships, broadcast initiatives and diplomatic engagement, helping promote the game to new audiences across Australia, China and international markets.
