The NCAA player transfer portal has officially come to a close for another year, and Australians have been at the centre of major movement across college basketball.
NCAA WOMEN
One of the most sought-after Australians, Bonnie Deas is heading to UCLA following an impressive freshman season with the Arkansas Razorbacks, averaging 10.2 PPG, 9.0 REB and 2.6 AST.
South Australian Lara Somfai’s transfer from powerhouse program Stanford to TCU came as a surprise, particularly after a highly productive freshman year averaging 26.4 minutes, 10.8 PPG and 9.1 REB.
Former CoE graduate Emilija Dakic shifts to Iowa State for 2026/27, as the Victorian couldn’t land consistent minutes with the Florida Gators in her freshman year.
Hannah Chicken earnt attention from larger programs, and will make the jump to Illinois State, having excelled for Portland State as one of the team’s most consistent contributors across the floor in 2025/26.
Perhaps the most improved player across the board was UC Riverside’s Hannah Wickstrom, with enormous boosts in her production as she raised her season averages to 23.4 PPG, 7.3 REB and 2.8 AST.
Wickstrom’s breakout season has earned her a move to Purdue for 2026/27.
After the strongest season of her three years at Nebraska, Jessica Petrie will spend her senior year at Indiana.
Petrie serves as a high impact player, being a starter in 23 out of 30 games with averages of 11.3 PPG, 4.8 REB and 1.4 AST in 2025/26.
Sophie Burrows is trading in the Orange for Carolina Blue following three seasons at Syracuse.
The newly acquired Tar Heel has spent 61 of her past 62 games as a starter for Syracuse, averaging 11 PPG in her junior season, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to North Carolina.
NCAA MEN
The movement has been just as active on the men’s side.
The Foxwell brothers have been busy, with all three set to play college basketball next season.
After years developing at the professional level, 22-year-old Owen Foxwell is headed to Wisconsin, where he’ll join former SEM Phoenix teammate Austin Rapp and South Australian Isaac Riddle.
As one Foxwell brother departs Portland, another arrives, with 18-year-old Austin Foxwell following in his brother Joel’s footsteps to the Pilots for the 2026/27 season.
Joel Foxwell joins Arizona State after emerging as one of Australia’s top NCAA performers in 2025/26. The freshman guard turned heads at Portland, earning selection in both the All-WCC First Team and All-WCC Freshman Team.
One of the biggest moves of the off-season came off the court, with Arizona State’s acquisition of St Mary’s long serving and well-regarded head coach Randy Bennett, alongside Australian assistant David Patrick.
Bennett and Patrick have a storied past of attracting Australian talent to their programs, with the duo already signing Australians Marcus Vaughns, Joel Foxwell and Ajak Nyuon to the Sun Devils for the upcoming season.
David Patrick arrives from LSU, where he served as associate head coach, and worked closely with Centre of Excellence graduates Marcus Vaughns and Max Mackinnon.
Patrick is also known for his role in the development of Duop Reath and Ben Simmons during their time with the program.
Despite Bennett’s departure, St Mary’s continues to lean heavily into Australian talent, signing Flynn Pavely and guard Luke Fennell who was under-utilised by Syracuse last season.
Another Australian searching for a fresh start is Jacob Furphy…
The Tasmanian found opportunities hard to come by in a stacked UConn rotation, as the Huskies eventually bowed out 69-63 in the March Madness National Championship game.
Furphy has since committed to Boston College, aiming for more opportunities and an expanded role in the upcoming season.
Queensland's Roman Siulepa is headed for Ole Miss, after steadily developing during his freshman campaign with Pittsburgh.
The 198cm forward has been well regarded as one of the nation’s brightest prospects, first drawing major attention after claiming back-to-back Foot Locker U20 National Championship MVPs in 2024 and 2025.
Alex Condon will return to Florida for a fourth season, opting against entering the NBA Draft, with the 211cm power forward chasing one last NCAA national championship.
Condon has steadily built his minutes and involvement with the team over the years, being a point of difference for the Gators in 2025/26 with averages of 15.1 PPG, 3.6 AST and 7.5 REB on an efficient 55.6 FG%.
