FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup draw sets the Stage in Brno

The Sapphires have been placed in Group A alongside United States of America, Côte d’Ivoire, and Latvia.

Australia’s rising stars now know their path to global success, with the official draw for the 2026 FIBA U17 Women’s Basketball World Cup confirmed ahead of July’s tournament in Brno, Czechia.

Currently ranked fourth in the world at U17 level, the Sapphires have been placed in Group A alongside United States of America, Côte d’Ivoire, and Latvia in what shapes as one of the most competitive pools of the tournament.

Headlining the group is the United States, the most successful nation in U17 history. For Australia, the early clash presents a benchmark opportunity against the world’s best, continuing a rivalry that has helped define the standard at this level.

Côte d’Ivoire will make its debut appearance at the event, bringing athleticism and unpredictability, while Latvia returns with strong European credentials and a disciplined style of play.

The 16-nation tournament will see all teams advance beyond the group phase into the Round of 16, placing a premium on strong performances to secure a favourable knockout pathway.

Australia enters the World Cup following a strong showing at the FIBA U16 Women’s Asia Cup, reinforcing the depth of emerging talent across the national pathway.

The Sapphires program continues to play a critical role in developing the next generation of Opals, with the U17 World Cup providing invaluable experience against the world’s best.
