Australia’s 3x3 Basketball program is heading into Glasgow 2026 in its strongest position yet — sharpened by a standout 2025 and driven by a clear ambition to build on its Commonwealth Games debut.
When 3x3 returns to the SEC Centre from 24–29 July, the field will be expanded to 12 teams per gender, reflecting how quickly the format has grown since Birmingham 2022, where Australia claimed men’s silver and women’s bronze.
That growth has been matched by Australia’s own progress, with both squads capturing gold at the 2025 FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup in Singapore.
Head Coach Damon Lowery reflected on both the journey and what lies ahead.
“We were fortunate enough to participate in the first 3x3 Comm Games in Birmingham in 2022,” Lowery said.
“We left with the bronze medal and some unforgettable memories. A lot has changed in four years, but one thing that hasn’t changed is the enthusiasm and passion for the sport. See ya in Scotland. #ganggang”
Australia’s Men’s Head Coach Adam Forde said the Commonwealth Games remains a special stage.
“It’s always a privilege to represent your country in any event, but to do so at the Commonwealth Games is such an honour,” Forde said.
“The Comm Games is a flagship event that attracts so much interest in players on every level around the country. Our preparation has already started with identifying those players who are not only extremely talented, but also embody the values and attributes needed to represent the green and gold.”
Behind the scenes, Basketball Australia’s expanding 3x3 pathway, including national 3x3 Champs across age groups, continues to strengthen the pipeline into the senior program.
With the draw and schedule still to come, the focus is now on preparation, with a camp to be held in Cairns later this month.
