Gliders defeat Thailand for AOZ bronze

A 58–39 win over Thailand seals bronze for the Gliders as attention shifts to repechage.

The Gliders have capped off their IWBF Asia Oceania Championships campaign with a strong 58–39 win over host nation Thailand to claim the bronze medal in Bangkok today.

After a heartbreaking two-point semi-final loss to Japan last night, the Gliders responded with a confident performance to close out the tournament on a high note.

Despite securing a place on the podium, the Gliders will now have to shift their attention to the repechage pathway, where a final opportunity to qualify for the 2026 IWBF World Championships in Canada awaits.

The repechage tournament will take place early next year, with location and dates to be confirmed. The top four teams from that event will secure their place at the World Championships.

Head Coach Craig Campbell said he was proud of the way the team bounced back.

“This group showed real character today. We were disappointed to fall short in the semi-final, but the response was exactly what we hoped for," Campbell said.

“This win is important for our confidence and reinforces the progress we have made throughout the event.

“We know the job is not finished. Repechage is now our full focus, and we will be ready.”
