Basketball Australia will launch the inaugural 3x3 Champs tournament alongside the Foot Locker U20 National Championships in January 2026.
The first-ever 3x3 Champs tournament will run at Selkirk Stadium in Ballarat on 30 – 31 January, with registrations open for teams within the U23 and U17 age brackets for men and women.
The 3x3 Champs tournament presents a unique, standalone event that will co-exist as a talent identification pathway for the Australian Gangurrus 3x3 national teams.
The Gangurrus 3x3 teams compete in the FIBA, Commonwealth & Olympic Games tournament cycle and the women’s team made history in Paris last year as the first Australian 3x3 team to compete at the Olympics.
With the 3x3 format taking off globally and massive popularity in Asia, it’s an exciting advancement in Oceania, as an addition to junior basketball and for the growth of the format in Australia.
“A major co-benefit of the 3x3 Champs tournament will be its role as a centralised talent identification pathway for national representation,” said Priyanka Karunakaran, High Performance Manager, 3x3 Basketball.
“Adapting to the rising level of global competition and streamlining our 3x3 talent pathway is essential to identify the next wave of Gangurrus champions and competing at the international level.”
Registration for the inaugural U23 and U17 3x3 Champs tournaments is available via the FIBA 3x3 portal with a deadline of Sunday, 30 November 2025.
