The Gems have capped off a phenomenal FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup campaign with a silver medal, going down 88–76 to the United States in the 2025 FIBA U19 Women’s Basketball World Cup final in Brno.
Facing a USA side gunning for its 11th U19 title, the Gems matched the world’s best with toughness, composure and relentless energy.
Despite trailing early, the Aussies mounted multiple surges to keep the contest alive deep into the fourth quarter.
Forward Bonnie Deas led the way with 18 points and 6 rebounds, shooting 46.7% from the field, including a momentum-shifting three early in the final term.
Guard Ruby Perkins added 12 points and 4 assists, while Sitaya Fagan chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds, battling relentlessly in the paint.
Australia kept things tight through three quarters, trailing just 68–62 entering the fourth. When Deas banked in a corner triple to trim the deficit to four, a comeback looked imminent.
However, a decisive 12–2 run by the USA—with six points from tournament MVP Saniyah Hall—ultimately broke the game open.
