Basketball Australia is pleased to confirm that Victoria’s Berwick College and Flinders Christian Community College have been invited to participate at the inaugural NBA Rising Stars Invitational in Singapore later this month.
Held from 25-29 June, the five-day event will bring together 23 boys’ and girls’ teams from across 11 countries in the Asia-Pacific region as part of a broader basketball and entertainment showcase hosted by the NBA.
Both teams earned their spot on the international stage after taking out the Under-17 Division 1 Championship title at the 2024 Australian School Championships on the Gold Coast.
Basketball Australia’s Head of Events, Sarah Monck, said the invitation recognises the exceptional talent and development within Australia’s school basketball system.
“When the NBA approached us to nominate teams, we knew we had to send our very best. Both Berwick and Flinders delivered standout performances at last year’s Australian School Championships, and this is a well-deserved opportunity.
It’s an experience these young athletes will never forget, and a proud moment for their schools and the broader Australian basketball community.”
Flinders Christian Community College Basketball Academy Team Manager, Natalie Chatfield, said the invitation reflects her team’s talent and strong team culture.
“Our team is beyond excited to participate in the NBA Rising Stars Invitational. It’s a dream opportunity that reflects not just their ability, but their commitment to growth, teamwork and leadership. They’re honoured to represent Australia on the world stage.”
Berwick College Basketball Academy Assistant Director, Shannan Davey, described the invitation as a defining moment for Berwick College’s Basketball Academy.
“This is a huge milestone for our program. The players have worked tirelessly, and to now be recognised internationally is a true testament to their commitment and the strength of the Academy at Berwick College. We’re incredibly proud of what they’ve achieved.”
The NBA Rising Stars Invitational will begin with a group stage following a round-robin format from June 25-27 before moving into the semi-finals and the final games on June 28 and 29, respectively. Off the court, players will also engage in skill development, cultural exchange and community-focused activities.
