Fresh off a strong international campaign, the Australian Gangurrus are set to continue their FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series journey with a fourth stop in Jakarta, Indonesia this week.
The team returns to competition following a successful stretch in Ulaanbaatar, where they claimed gold in the Women’s Series event before advancing to the quarter finals of the FIBA 3x3 World Cup. Their World Cup run came to an end against eventual champions, the Netherlands, but marked another promising step forward in their 2025 campaign.
The line-up features Anneli Maley, Marena Whittle, Hannah Hank and Miela Sowah - who comes into the event off the back of a standout campaign with the Opals, playing a key role in their historic first FIBA Women’s Asia Cup title.
Australia has been placed in Group B for the tournament, where they will face host nation Indonesia's Team Jakarta, as well as Philippines in the pool stage.

30 April – 3 May 2025
In Pool A, the Gangurrus opened their campaign against the Netherlands, followed by a match-up with Takasaki (Japan).
Leading the Australian charge was Miela Sowah, who returned to the squad after helping the Gangurrus claim gold at the 2025 FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup.
Joining Sowah was Hannah Hank, who made her mark at the 2025 Champions Cup 3x3 in Bangkok and continued her strong form in Chengdu.
The squad also welcomed two exciting debutants, Lara McSpadden and Alex Fowler.
Fowler, a former Australian junior representative at the 2018 FIBA 3x3 Under-18 World Cup, was eager to make her mark at the senior level.
“It’s really cool to look back and see how far 3x3 has come since then. There wasn’t much exposure or tournaments for 3x3 globally, and you’ve seen the success within the Gangurrus internationally and how well they’ve done and the name they’ve made for themselves, so I’m honoured to be a part of it now,” said Fowler.
