Emus To Open U18 FIBA Asia Cup Campaign Against Mongolia

The Australian Emus will represent the green and gold in Amman, Jordan as one of sixteen teams vying for a top-four finish to secure their spot at the FIBA U19 World Cup to be held in Switzerland next year.

The excitement is building as the FIBA U18 Asia Cup kicks off today in Amman, Jordan. The Australian Emus are ready to make their mark in their opening game against Mongolia, marking their first U18 campaign since hosting the tournament in the Mongolian capital in 2012.

Running from September 2-9, this tournament is crucial for securing a spot in the FIBA U19 Basketball World Cup, with the top four teams earning a ticket to the 2025 event in Switzerland.

Drawn into Group A, the Emus will face off against Mongolia, Lebanon, and Chinese Taipei. They will be competing alongside other strong contenders, including traditional powerhouses like China and Japan, and notable teams such as New Zealand, Philippines, and Iran.

Korea enters the tournament as the defending champion, having won the 2022 edition in Tehran with a 77-73 victory over Japan in the final.

The 16 participating teams will be split into 4 groups. The top team from each group will automatically advance to the Quarter-Finals on 7 September.

Teams finishing in second and third place will have a chance to qualify for the Quarter-Finals through the crossover Qualification round on 6 September.

The Semi-Finals are set for 8 September, with the losing teams from the Quarter-Finals competing in the Classification 5-8 games on the same day.

The Final will be held on 9 September, following the Classification games for 7-8 and 5-6 places, as well as the Third-Place Game.

All games will be streamed live via FIBA's official YouTube page.
