Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops launch grants program

Supported by the Australian Sports Commission through Sporting Schools, Basketball Australia is pleased to launch a grants program for clubs and associations delivering Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops, to enhance their programs and relationships with local schools.
Local Centres can apply for grants up to $500, to develop and deliver innovative strategies, products and projects in their network of schools during Term 1. Grants will be used to fund official equipment and resources, coaching courses for local coaches and teachers, club-branded merchandise for students as well as promotional signage and flyers to promote local participation pathways. “This initiative will support the efforts of administrators and volunteers in our basketball community,” said Basketball Australia CEO Anthony Moore. “It will attract the next generation of Boomers and Opals to our game through Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops, whilst creating long-lasting relationships with local schools.” Details for applying and eligibility can be found at www.aussiehoops.com.au/sporting-schools/local-centre-grants/, with grant applications open until February 29. Sporting Schools funded in-school basketball programs to over 8,000 primary school students during 2015, featuring several visits from Australian Jayco Opals as well as WNBL and NBL players, and provided more than 1,200 Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops basketballs to schoolyards across Australia. Over 300 Vicinity Centres Aussie Hoops programs take place each school term nationally, and has given 16,575 young Aussie Hoopers and their families a positive first basketball experience in the past year.
