Kilsyth to host 2016 U16's Championship

Basketball Australia is pleased to announce the Under-16 National Championship will be hosted by Kilsyth, Victoria in 2016 from July 2-9.

After a successful tournament in 2011, Chairman Mike Bainbridge is overjoyed to once again be hosting the event.

"It’s always great to be able to showcase your facilities to the rest of the nation," Bainbridge said.

"I think we’ve got one of the best showcourts in Australia in the Hugh McMenamin Court and we recently opened our own Hall of Fame which should impress all those that come down.

"On top of that, it’s great to have the country’s best junior talent playing under your roof, especially when you think that there may be several future Boomers and Opals amongst them."

President Malcolm Allison was also enthusiastic about the announcement saying that he was "thrilled to once again be chosen to host these prestigious Championships".

In the 52nd year of the organisation, Kilsyth boasts the largest association in Australia and also recently held the School Championships in 2012 and 2013.

Earlier this year, Qld North took the men's title at the Under-16's while Qld South were victorious for the women.

Prior to that, the SA Metro women won in 2013 and ended a a 14-year streak for Vic Metro, a run they will be looking to restart at their home venue next year.
