Another big year of coach development

With the great support of our State and Territory organisations and local associations, there have been over 50 clinics run during the year across the country and coaches of all levels of experience have taken the chance to add to their craft.

As we head into the final month of another busy year of coach development, we thought we would look back on some of the clinics and activities from 2023 and share some highlights.

With the great support of our State and Territory organisations and local associations, there have been over 50 clinics run during the year across the country and coaches of all levels of experience have taken the chance to add to their craft.

As always, our national team coaches have been terrific supporters of coach development and perhaps the highlight of the clinic calendar was our Boomers staff presenting clinics in Melbourne just prior to the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

More than 250 coaches took the opportunity to learn from Brian Goorjian and Adam Capron, with thousands more accessing the free video of the clinics. Some great drills, concepts and takeaways from this outstanding coach development event.

With the support of Basketball WA and Basketball NT, Cotter was able to work with over 350 coaches across eight different events in Perth, Geraldton and Darwin.

The Basketball Australia National Coaches Conference continues to be one of the major coach development events on the calendar and the 2023 conference did not disappoint, with a series of outstanding on-court presentations and keynote speeches across the two days.

More than 180 coaches from each state and territory attended the conference and took advantage of the generous spirit of sharing from eight elite presenters.

Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence Women’s Head Coach David Herbert was highly active in 2023, presenting a series of skill and concept clinics in a number of different metropolitan and regional centres.

The clinics focused on areas such as shooting and developing guard play and provided a valuable insight into the COE and the daily training environment.

Basketball Australia would like to thank and acknowledge the various organisations at national, state, territory and local level that continue to commit to developing coaches and invest resources in supporting coaches at all levels of the sport.

Don’t forget tonight’s (Monday) huge clinic on the Gold Coast, featuring Australian Opals mentor Sandy Brondello and Boomers coach Brian Goorjian. The event is being live-streamed and interested coaches can access tickets here.
