Gangurrus women advance to 3x3 World Cup

The Aussie Gangurrus women’s team have booked their ticket to the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2023

The Aussie Gangurrus women’s team have booked their ticket to the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2023 at the World Cup Qualifier in Eilat, Israel, over the weekend.  

The Aussies stormed through the competition, remaining undefeated for the tournament and claimed wins over Madagascar (21-9) and Czech Republic (18-16).

In the final matchup, Australia defeated home side Israel (21-11) to secure a spot in the final 20 women’s teams bound for the World Cup later this month.

Marena Whittle and Alex Wilson continued their outstanding form from the FIBA 3x3 Asia Cup, combining for 19 points.   

Meanwhile, another Australian women’s team was battling it out in the FIBA 3x3 Women’s Series in China.  

The Gangurrus remained undefeated through the Pool Phase, defeating Germany (21-16), Mongolia (21-17) and Japan, after a thrilling battle saw the Aussies come away with just a one-point win (21-20).

Australia breezed home in their Semi-Final matchup against SC. Yuanda, winning 21-16.  

The Final saw the Gangurrus having to face another undefeated side in China. With the home crowd on their side, China stormed past Australia 21-13 to take home the first Women's Series Stop of the season. 

Lauren Mansfield was the top-scorer for Australia with 39 points, while Emma Clarke claimed the most rebounds for the tournament with 32.  

Australia will now head to the FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2023 in Vienna, Austria, on May 30 - June 4.
