Japan series added for Opals, Boomers

Basketball Australia have added more depth to a high volume window with a series against Japan in June

The Seven Consulting Opals and Boomers will play games in Japan to maximise the international performance window for Basketball Australia’s national teams.

The Opals will face Japan in the Mitsui Fudosan Cup 2024 on June 20 and 21. The series will provide additional playing time for players prior to the Ford BALLIN’24 games in Melbourne from July 2 – 6.

“This collaboration with the Japan Basketball Association will allow for depth to Basketball Australia’s peak period of international experience,” said Jason Smith, Basketball Australia's Executive General Manager of High Performance.

“We are always mindful of sustaining a strong development pathway for players to excel and develop through a multitude of ways. The ability to maintain a long term vision is essential for the future of our players and the performance of Basketball Australia’s national teams.”

A squad of up-and-coming stars will represent the Boomers against Japan for the Nissay Cup on June 22 and 23. A diversified list of next up talent and breakthrough players will take the court in an alternating schedule alongside the Opals in Sapporo.
